It is no longer a calling but a money making business

During the Cross-connect gospel event I confirmed my worst fears, gospel is no longer a calling to discipleship but a money making investment, a profitable one by the way. First and foremost I greatly appreciate what System Unit has been doing to promote urban gospel or what some would call modern gospel. The event which according to me was heavily sponsored by Standard Digital Entertainment. Considering the number of gospel artists who made it to the event together with their flashy automobiles. The gate collection fee was the centre of controversy Friday’s 3am morning debacle where system unit officials accused Ian Osundwa and his two assistants of shortchanging them by failing to give them a share of the returns. As far as I know there are no assistant directors in any MUSO docket, maybe they were trying to refer to Osundwa’s sidekicks who help him in organizing events.

According to entertainment director who spoke to us after the incident considering me and my friend Andy were the only campus media personnel around when this drama unfolded. There was no agreement that System Unit was to be paid as they had held high profile meetings with M.C. Njugush in Nairobi and they never talked of any payment package. The event was sponsored by Standard Digital Entertainment and the entertainment docket was to provide security and music system of which they did. I also realized that the gym goers are being paid a lot of money, a whopping 25000 for a single event, am seriously considering starting to make good use of Moi University fitness centre so that my friend Kinaga would enlist me as a bouncer during such events.

Back to top de top Dj and gospel MC when going to campus gigs, if they are not free gigs, kindly take a down payment, a hefty one by the way before you take to the stage. Now that they threatened to do something to Osundwa that he would not like, I thought people of the ‘word’ do not threaten people. I am sure they cannot do anything legal as there was no legal written agreement as confirmed by Osundwa .This incident made top de top Dj to refuse to take pictures with fans claiming that he was busy dealing with important “money” issues that he cannot pose for photographs. “System unit is a company and it cannot go on making loses at the expense of a misunderstanding between Osundwa and M.C. Njugush.” So who is cheating who System UnitIan Osundwa or Standard Digital Entertainment?

Gospel celebrities who graced the event most were arrogant and refused to take photographs with fans apart from the trio of DK, Hope kid and Daddy Owen who were more than willing to interact and pose for photographs with fans. Almost forgot Ole Willy whom everyone ignored apart from us, he was a down to earth celebrity.

To my fellow drunkards, I know you don’t drink my father’s money thus I have no business interfering with the alcohol you drink .Even though the campus bouncers lead by Matete tried their best to contain infiltration of alcoholic drinks. Some of you managed to bring alcohol in soft copy form in that event. How do you make an appearance to a Gospel event drunk? Just remember fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.
